Travel blogs winners & losers 2025
Blog A increases its traffic by 678% ↔️ Blog B loses 94%

This case study examines two travel blogs: roamandthrive.com and findloveandtravel.com.
Both blogs target a similar audience and rely heavily on advertising revenue. They also have a similar SEO strategy.
However, their SEO performance has developed quite differently.
I wanted to find out why one website is growing while the other is declining despite their similarities.
Overview
Both websites are filled with advertisements, which makes them difficult to use. This is a common problem with blogs that earn money from advertising. However, it negatively impacts interaction and the website’s overall quality.
According to my analysis, Roam and Thrive provides more detailed, better-structured travel information, whereas Find Love and Travel publishes shorter, less detailed posts.
SEO performance comparison
When I examined the traffic data, I noticed a significant difference. For example, Roam and Thrive increased its monthly traffic from 9,000 to 70,000 visitors in 2025, a 678% increase.
Meanwhile, Find Love and Travel saw a 94% drop in visitors, declining from 67,000 to 4,000.
These contrasting trends demonstrate the importance of content quality and link profile health for long-term SEO performance. While Roam and Thrive continues to build thematic authority and visibility, Find Love and Travel appears to be losing trust and momentum.

Link profile analysis
In terms of SEO, the biggest difference between the two websites is their backlink profile.
Roam and Thrive has a natural mix of referring domains, with many links coming from websites with higher domain authority that cover relevant travel topics.
Find Love and Travel, on the other hand, has an unnaturally high number of low-quality links — over 80% of which come from weak or irrelevant domains. Many of these links use anchor text related to dating. However, this is not at all relevant to the travel industry. This discrepancy has likely resulted in penalties or loss of visibility after Google updated its link algorithm.

Summary and findings
Roam and Thrive (roamandthrive.com) increased its monthly traffic by an impressive 678%. This increase is due to higher-quality links and more in-depth content.
Find Love and Travel (findloveandtravel.com), on the other hand, lost about 94% of its traffic, likely due to an unnatural backlink profile and irrelevant anchors.
Too many ads and poor link quality can quickly negate the benefits of decent content.
To grow sustainably, both websites should reduce the number of ads, improve the user experience, and focus on obtaining links from trusted, travel-related sources.
Blogging isn’t dead… But some blogs are dead
This comparison makes it clear that modern blogging is about more than just publishing content or generating advertising revenue. It’s about quality, credibility, and focus. Roam and Thrive demonstrates this by attracting tens of thousands of readers every month with its well-researched, trustworthy content and healthy link profile.
Find Love and Travel, on the other hand, shows what happens when a website loses its direction. Over-optimized links, irrelevant anchor texts, and too many ads can quietly destroy long-term visibility.
Blogging still works, but only for those who view it as a craft rather than a quick monetization strategy.
